About
The House Pool at Glengarry Castle Hotel once reigned as the premier fishing spot on the River Garry in Inverness-shire. Guests would draw lots each morning to fish there, enjoying a pleasant walk down a manicured flagstone path to reach it.
After World War II ownership changes made access through the Castle difficult, requiring a two-mile walk to the pool. Over time House Pool became overgrown and inaccessible and the Estuary Pool took over as the prime beat due to ease of access and parking. In 2024 a decision was made to reopen House and Sluice Pools (just upriver). The planned programme of works will reinstate the paths and remove years of overgrown scrub and rhododendron, but access will remain a challenge due to the long trek to the main road bridge.
To address this a new footbridge is being built across the Garry, just upstream from the Estuary, providing immediate access to the opposite bank. The clearance will significantly enhance this beautiful area and the footbridge, crafted from locally sourced timber, will blend seamlessly into the serene landscape.
Downriver, a newly constructed fishing cabin at the Estuary offers a cosy retreat for anglers, featuring rustic design elements that complement the wilderness. The new bridge and fully fitted cabin will make access easier and more enjoyable, reopening this historic pool for fishing and improving the river experience like never before.
